Exploration of our culture via drag

The art of drag gives us a chance to see an eye view of our own world from the outside in, looking ourselves through the sub culture of drag, subculture that is known to exaggerate the modern-day values of the society around us, bringing a magnifying glass to the world, the good bad and ugly.

I want to look gender within the context of our culture. Showing a mirror to ourselves and our thoughts upon gender as well as how this has been subverted over time, how our perception has been shaped by change.

A good explanation of this would be fashions of the masculine during in the times of Albrecht Durer would be seen as feminine today.

Often the subversion of a culture can be catalyst to a changing out look on the world. This subversion can be seen via the history of female husbands, people seen as females at birth taking on aspects of maleness, with this male moniker commonly taking up rolls in the military, people such as James Gray Dorothy Lawrence and James Barry for example. taking us to ask the question who is a man when we talk of gender.

Leading us to our concept of the “real man” Where do we wish to place ourself within the ideas of gender? Does this entail the recidivism of toxic masculinity the dictator and the prisoner or being taken from the regular culture perhaps relating it with subcultures.
